Strong winds fuel wild­fires

Wild­fires burned parts of cen­tral and eastern Washington over the week­end as the state strug­gles with a se­vere drought.

In We­natchee, a wild­fire fu­eled by strong winds ig­nited brush just out­side the town, quickly burn­ing out of con­trol. Rain­fall pro­vided some re­lief, but hot, dry con­di­tions and wind could chal­lenge crews try­ing to get a han­dle on the f lames that burned more than 4 square miles, of­fi­cials said.
