STORM TURNS DEADLY
A huge wave slams into the promenade Wednesday in Cape Town’s Sea Point neighborhood and washes over a car. Authorities said at least eight people were killed in the storm that swept into the area, which has been suffering from a severe drought. Victims included four people who died in a fire caused by lightning and one who was killed when a home collapsed, local media reported. Despite measures taken by city workers to protect some poor residents who live in sprawling neighborhoods of makeshift homes, hundreds of structures were f looded or damaged, authorities said.
