De­fend­ing cham­pion: Dustin John­son. Notes: For the first time since 1992 at Peb­ble Beach, the U.S. Open will play as a par 72. No one has won back-to-back at the U.S. Open since Cur­tis Strange in 1988-89, the long­est drought of a re­peat win­ner among the four ma­jors. Phil Mick­el­son plans to with­draw be­cause of daugh­ter Amanda’s high school grad­u­a­tion Thurs­day. This is the first time in 25 years that a U.S. Open will not have Mick­el­son or Tiger Woods.
