CAR BOMBER KILLS ONLY HIMSELF
A police operation was underway Monday on the Champs-Elysees after a man rammed a car carrying explosives into a police vehicle, setting off a fiery blast. The attacker was killed. No one else was hurt, according to the Paris police department. Two police officials told the Associated Press that a handgun was found on the driver, whom they identified as a 31-year-old man from Paris’ Argenteuil suburb who had an “S file,” meaning he had been flagged for links to extremism. France’s anti-terrorism prosecutor opened an investigation. Interior Minister Gerard Collomb said the attack showed the terrorist threat in France remained very high, justifying the state of emergency that has been in place since 2015.
