In most statewide races, no Republican candidates

Los Angeles Times - - ESSENTIAL POLITICS - — John Myers

No Republican had filed paperwork as of Monday to run for statewide office in five races.

Only Democrats have said they are seeking the offices of secretary of state, treasurer, controller, insurance commissioner and superintendent of public instruction in 2018.

All of those positions, like the top roles in state government, are currently held by Democrats. While not completely surprising, it’s a stark reminder of how the GOP has shrunk in statewide viability in recent years.
