REPUBLICAN POLITICIANS DESECRATION

- Paid for by Gary Platt platt4643@ sbcglobal. net

In 1930 I was a five year old dedicated Republican living on Sunnyside Street in Sierra Madre. My political guru was an elderly gentleman living across the street named Amos Thompson whom I considered to be my best friend. He grew many fruits and vegetables on his property and when ripe brought some for me to taste. He also told me about when he was my age he visited the White House with his father to see Abraham Lincoln who was a family friend. His father John S. Thompson had been a circuit judge in Illinois when Lincoln was a young lawyer who practiced and argued cases in his court and they became friends. The Thompson family moved to Los Angeles in 1869 and purchased 58 acres around what is now Adams and Figueroa to build their home as well as 700 acres in what is now La Habra. They were very much a Republican family. Amos Thompson’s daughter Katherine Von Blon was a columnist for many years for the old conservative Chandler family owned Los Angeles Times. All of this histor y was uncovered when a wonderful young lady named Tia volunteered to do the research for me.

My political thoughts changed when President Franklin D. Roosevelt rescued us from the depression and I became a Democrat but have always had respect for Republicans and the way congress was able to come to agreements. I marveled at the way Democrats and Republicans disagreed, came to a compromise and things got done up until four years ago.

When congressmen take office they are sworn in and promise to uphold the laws of the United States of America and the Democrats have done so. The Republicans have not and became loyal only to Donald Trump and became Trumpicans, never daring to disagree with him, fearing for their standing with him and avoiding his giving them derisive nicknames. These Republican politicians are meekly following a man who opens the prison doors and pardons convicted killers, men who have lied to congress, a man who swindled our government out of a billion dollars, and even his daughter’s father in law. These are all convicts who had their day in court and were sent to prison by a judge and jur y in our United States of America. Yet this president has no compassion for the many thousands of deaths he is responsible for from the COVID VIRUS he hid from the public for so long. None of this holds a candle to what Trump did to our United States on January 6, 2021 with his attempted coup of our Congress at the Capitol by urging his followers to storm the Capitol building when the results were being certified. This spoiled madman still keeps insisting he won and the election was stolen from him. The domestic terrorists he inspired did irreparable damage to our reputation amongst the nations of the world who looked up to us as a civilized society and not a third world country where riots created new rulers.

The Republican congress men and women are complicit and possibly responsible for Trump’s actions and should never be elected again and forever be branded as Trumpicans and not Republicans. This description should also be on their tombstone.

Up in heaven Abraham Lincoln and Amos Thompson have tears running down their cheeks because of what politicians have done to their Republican Party.

George Washington and Thomas Jefferson along with many other Founding Fathers of our United States of America are next to them wondering how their great effor ts could have failed.
