Central Arkansas Development Council
Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has been a challenging task worldwide, the Central Arkansas Development Council has maintained its purpose to alleviate the causes and conditions of poverty, to help vulnerable populations achieve their potential and to build strong communities in Arkansas through community action.
While striving for excellence in the achievement of its mission through the maximum feasible participation of all persons served by the agency, the CADC distributed hundreds of emergency food boxes to several families in their 19 counties that range from Lonoke to the Texarkana-Louisiana border.
Randy Morris, executive director of Central Arkansas Development Council aimed to keep the mission of CADC fulfilled by contributing these emergency boxes to help all those in need during a crisis.
Morris emphasized how exciting this program would help be to assist several families during this difficult time worldwide. He was enthused to announce last year that in May as well as October and November
Emergency Food Distribution would be distributed to benefit many families in the community.
"It is a program that is going to help individuals. We here at CADC know that a lot of people are struggling right now with this COVID-19 pandemic that is going on. People are struggling, being laid off and they need this food," Morris said.
During the agency's first and second round of emergency food boxes distribution, more than 500,000 lbs. of boxes of food was provided to individuals and families in the community of all counties they service.
The agency has traveled around Arkansas to distribute nearly 10,000 food boxes to families and individuals in need. These boxes contained 50 lbs of food/household essentials including meat, flour, and vegetables.
For both visits CADC made in Hot Spring County, hundreds of emergency food boxes were provided to families in a drive-through event. Due to the COVID-19 guidelines and protocols mandated by Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, the agency scheduled drive-through events in all of their counties during the emergency food
