Woman shop­per as­saulted, robbed in Wal­mart lot

A 19-year-old woman shop­per was as­saulted in­side her car shortly af­ter 11 p.m. Wed­nes­day by two men in the Wal­mart shop­ping cen­ter park­ing lot in the 1200 block of South Main Street as she was plac­ing her pur­chases in­side her ve­hi­cle.

“Af­ter re­turn­ing the shop­ping cart and walk­ing back to her car, the woman was ap­proached by both sus­pects,” Man­teca Po­lice Sgt. Michael Aguilar said.

One of the men be­gan punch­ing her while the other suspect was armed with a hand­gun. Her wal­let was taken and the sus­pects fled on foot af­ter cit­i­zens ran to her aid.

When Man­teca of­fi­cers ar­rived, the sus­pects were seen flee­ing on foot be­hind Burling­ton Coat Fac­tory across the street at 1055 South Main Street. They both jumped over a re­tain­ing wall be­hind the store into the nearby res­i­den­tial area. Despite a yard to yard search for the men, they were not lo­cated, Aguilar said.

Sur­veil­lance video was ob­tained from the scene. Any­one with information on the pair is urged to call the Man­teca Po­lice Depart­ment at 209-456-8101.
