Ripon Aquatics standouts sign to Division I programs
RIPON — Four swimmers from the Ripon Aquatics program will be moving on.
On Tuesday, Andrew Britton, Mallory Brubaker, Ty Wells, and Elizabeth Wenner signed their letter of intents to their respective colleges.
Britton, who attends Gregori High in Modesto, will be swimming for the University of Utah, while Ripon High senior Brubaker is bound for California Baptist University in Riverside.
“It’s great (swim) program with a great coach,” Brubaker said following the signing event held at the Ervin Zador Aquatics Center at RHS. She’ll join former Sierra standout Scott Tolman and Christian Britton, Andrew’s brother, at Cal Baptist.
The California Baptist Lancers will be moving to NCAA Division I next year, competing in the Western Athletic Conference.
Wells considered California Baptist, along with Indiana University and Utah, before inking on with the University of Arizona of the Pac 12.
He and Britton — his soon-to-beUtes are also in the Pac 12 — both plan to major Pre-Med.
Brubaker is leaning towards Communications Sciences and Dis-
orders, with hopes of going into speech therapy.
Wenner is looking to study Marketing, majoring in Business at Fresno State. Couple that with a possible minor in Psychology.
She, too, looked at California Baptist and UC San Diego before deciding to become a Bulldog.
“( Fresno State) has the state- of- the- arts swimming facilities,” said Wenner, who, along with Wells, are also seniors at RHS.
According to Ripon Aquatics and Ripon High swim/water polo coach Erik Zador, the four here are most he’s sent to college in one year.
In the past five years, the program has produced Haylee Baldwin (Fresno State), Katelin Britton ( Fresno State), Miranda McDonald ( Cal State- East Bay), and Kendall Murphy ( Calvin College), to name a few.
Zador is thrilled with the opportunity that Britton, Brubaker, Wells and Wenner will have while competing at the major college level.
“They’re all phenomenal kids,” he said. “We were very fortunate to have here – they’re hard working, great all-around students and very caring with the younger kids in the program.”
