BER­MUDA TRIPLE CROWN

July, Hamil­ton, Ber­muda The Fa-La-Me team, led by owner Frank Ro­driguez and Capt. Rob Moore, won the 2017 Ber­muda Triple Crown, mak­ing them the first three-time win­ner of the se­ries. Le­gasea fin­ished in sec­ond place, and Galatea, with Capt. Ritchie How­ell at the helm, won third place.

SOUTH CAROLINA GOVER­NOR’S CUP BILLFISHING SE­RIES

May-July, South Carolina Capt. Chucky Moore and boat owner Colby Grif­fin led the Gryphon team to vic­tory in the 2017 South Carolina Gover­nor’s Cup Billfishing Se­ries. The team re­leased eight blue mar­lin and 13 sail­fish over the course of the five-tour­na­ment se­ries. Mis­ter Pete, owned by Bob and Rusty McClam and cap­tained by Alan Neiford, was sec­ond with four blue mar­lin and 16 sail­fish, and Toast, with owner Ron Martin and Capt. Newt Ca­gle, fin­ished in third place with five blues and 12 sail­fish.

THE BIG ROCK BLUE MAR­LIN TOUR­NA­MENT

June 10-17, More­head City, North Carolina The Run-Off team of Capt. Brian Har­ring­ton, mate Marty Hi­att and an­gler Matt Han­ley teamed up to win a record pay­out of $1,161,450 in this year’s event with their 533.8-pound blue mar­lin. Re­hab, a 48-foot Vik­ing cap­tained by Nathan Shep­ard, weighed a 506-pound blue mar­lin to fin­ish in sec­ond place, worth $250,720. Wel­dor’s Ark, a 55-foot Jar­rett Bay, was third with a 484.9-pound blue mar­lin, good for $166,480.
