A 10-year-old boy is listed in critical condition at Children’s National Medical Center after he was struck by a car Sunday afternoon in Waldorf.

At about 4:09 p.m., deputies with the Charles County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 2700 block of McDaniel Road for the report of a motor vehicle crash. Investigation showed the driver of a Nissan Altima, a 28-yearold woman, was heading south on McDaniel Road when she struck the boy who was crossing the street on his bicycle in a designated crosswalk. The child

suffered severe injuries and was flown to Children’s Hospital. The child, who was wearing a helmet, was in the company of his mother and two friends when he was struck. The crosswalk is clearly marked by road notification markings and street signs. It is not immediately clear how the crash occurred, but the driver remained on the scene. The Traffic Operations Unit is investigating.
