Blue Crabs fall on opening night, salvage win in series
Blue Crabs drop season opener to Lancaster
The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs kicked off the 2016 season on Thursday night versus Lancaster, but the night would not be kind as the Blue Crabs fell 5-2 loss at the hands of the Barnstormers in front of 5,624 fans in attendance at Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf.
It was the second straight year that the Blue Crabs fell on opening night, losing to Somerset in 2015.
Lancaster, which fell to Southern Maryland in four games last season in the Freedom Division championship series, responded in the season’s inaugural game with strong pitching and defense.
Blue Crabs starter Daryl Thompson, a 2003 La Plata High School graduate, went 4 2/3 innings and allowed four runs on seven hits in Thursday night’s season-opening 5-2 loss to Lancaster at Regency Furniture Stadium.
