Blue Crabs drop sea­son opener to Lancaster

The South­ern Mary­land Blue Crabs kicked off the 2016 sea­son on Thurs­day night ver­sus Lancaster, but the night would not be kind as the Blue Crabs fell 5-2 loss at the hands of the Barn­storm­ers in front of 5,624 fans in at­ten­dance at Re­gency Fur­ni­ture Sta­dium in Wal­dorf.

It was the sec­ond straight year that the Blue Crabs fell on open­ing night, los­ing to Som­er­set in 2015.

Lancaster, which fell to South­ern Mary­land in four games last sea­son in the Free­dom Divi­sion cham­pi­onship se­ries, re­sponded in the sea­son’s in­au­gu­ral game with strong pitch­ing and de­fense.


Blue Crabs starter Daryl Thomp­son, a 2003 La Plata High School grad­u­ate, went 4 2/3 in­nings and al­lowed four runs on seven hits in Thurs­day night’s sea­son-open­ing 5-2 loss to Lancaster at Re­gency Fur­ni­ture Sta­dium.
