Farm bureau to award $1,000 schol­ar­ship

The Charles County Farm Bureau is of­fer­ing a col­lege schol­ar­ship for the 2016-2017 school year. One ap­pli­cant will be awarded a $1,000 schol­ar­ship. Ap­pli­cants must be a res­i­dent of Charles County; a high school se­nior or a cur­rently en­rolled, full­time stu­dent at­tend­ing a two or four year col­lege, univer­sity or trade school ma­jor­ing in an agri­cul­ture re­lated field, nat­u­ral re­source man­age­ment, forestry or an­i­mal sci­ence; and have a grade point av­er­age of at least 2.5.

Pref­er­ence may be given to mem­bers or fam­ily mem­bers of Charles County Farm Bureau and 4-H. A schol­ar­ship re­cip­i­ent may be el­i­gi­ble to re­ceive this schol­ar­ship a max­i­mum of four times, pro­vid­ing they meet all other cri­te­ria.

Stu­dents must write an es­say de­scrib­ing them­selves, their ca­reer goals and as­pi­ra­tions, and how they plan on en­hanc­ing the Charles County agri­cul­tural com­mu­nity af­ter their col­lege grad­u­a­tion. Ap­pli­cants must also in­clude why they should be cho­sen to re­ceive this schol­ar­ship. Es­says should be sin­gle spaced, 12 point font, and two pages max­i­mum.

The dead­line to ap­ply for the schol­ar­ship is June 1. Stu­dents may also ob­tain ap­pli­ca­tions from their school’s ca­reer coun­selor or from the Charles County Ex­ten­sion Of­fice.

Each schol­ar­ship ap­pli­cant must com­plete a schol­ar­ship ap­pli­ca­tion and pro­vide all re­quired at­tach­ments to be el­i­gi­ble for the schol­ar­ship. The schol­ar­ship will be awarded based on scholas­tic achieve­ment, farm and com­mu­nity ac­tiv­ity, char­ac­ter and char­ac­ter ref­er­ence, and fi­nan­cial need. In­com­plete ap­pli­ca­tions may not be con­sid­ered. Schol­ar­ships will be awarded to win­ning ap­pli­cant at the Charles County Farm Bureau pic­nic in July. The schol­ar­ship check will be mailed di­rectly to the col­lege, univer­sity, or trade school in which the win­ner will be at­tend­ing.
