Frances Al­berta Jar­rett

Frances Al­berta “Bert” (Barger) Jar­rett, 85, of Nan­je­moy, MD, died May 9, 2016 at her res­i­dence. Bert was a lov­ing wife, mother, home­maker, and a very dear bus driver for Calvin Comp­ton Sr. and Jr. for two special needs schools (Mel­wood and F. B. Gwynn Cen­ter) and all public school lev­els. She re­tired at the age of 74.

For many years, she was a mem­ber of the Women’s Mite So­ci­ety at Durham Church where she also served on the Vestry and Al­ter Guild shar­ing her beau­ti­ful gift of flower ar­rang­ing. As a young wife and mother, she was a mem­ber of the Homemak­ers Club (through the Charles County Ex­ten­sion Ser­vice).

She was the daugh­ter of Lester LeRoy Smith and Zula Olive Carter Smith. In ad­di­tion to her par­ents, she is pre­de­ceased by her hus­bands, Blair B. Barger and John W. Jar­rett; her step-mother, “Dot” Smith; her brother, Den­nis Smith; her sis­ter, Bet­tye Cummings.

She is sur­vived by her son, Blair “Bruce” Barger and wife Bonnie; her daugh­ters, Deb­o­rah Lee Boyd and hus­band Thomas, Norma Lianna Ryan and hus­band Patrick, and Bonnie S. Tyo and hus­band Robert; her sis­ters, Mar­garet Camp­bell and hus­band Al­bert, Les­lie Smith, and Jean Edwards and hus­band Robert; and her brother-in-law, Ken Cummings; her grand­chil­dren, Brian Barger, Allison Eddy, Mark Boyd, Blair Boyd, Ben Ham­mer, Michael Ham­mer, Eric Ham­mer, Alex Tyo, Matthew Tyo, and Kather­ine Tyo; and her great-grand­son, Evan Barger and great-grand­daugh­ter, Krissy Davis.

Friends re­ceived on Sun­day, May 15, from 4-7 p.m. with prayers at 6:30 p.m. at Ray­mond Fu­neral Ser­vice Chapel, 5635 Wash­ing­ton Ave., La Plata, MD 20646. Ad­di­tional vis­i­ta­tion on Mon­day, May 16, from 12 p.m. un­til ser­vice time at 1 p.m. at Old Durham Epis­co­pal Church in Iron­sides, MD. In­ter­ment at the church ceme­tery.

Han­nelore Anna Frieda Howe

Han­nelore Anna Frieda Howe, 87, of Sandgates, died on May 4, 2016 at Wal­ter Reed Na­tional Mil­i­tary Med­i­cal Cen­ter in Bethesda.

Born July 22, 1928 in Frankfurt am Main, Ger­many, she was the daugh­ter of the late Wil­helm Hein­rich Franz and Ge­orgina Eleonore (Kramer) Franz.

Mrs. Howe is sur­vived by her daugh­ter Pa­tri­cia Tip­pett, sons Michael Howe and Jef­frey Howe, sis­ter Lieselotte Sut­ton, sis­ter-in-law Re­nate Franz; six grand­chil­dren and four great-grand­chil­dren.

She was pre­ceded in death by her hus­band Ge­orge Henry Howe, son Ron­ald Howe, brother Karl­heinz Franz, and brother-in-law Gor­don Sut­ton. View­ing will be held at Are­hart-Echols Fu­neral Home in La Plata on May 17th, 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and Prayers will be at 7 p.m. View­ing will be held on May 18th at 11 a.m. fol­lowed by In­ter­ment at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bryan­town. Pall­bear­ers are Michael Howe, Jef­frey Howe, David Howe, Gary Steven­ton Jr., Gre­gory Steven­ton, Stephen Howe, Jeremy Tip­pett, and Henry Thomp­son.

Clarence Daniel Car­pen­ter Jr.

Clarence Daniel Car­pen­ter Jr., 91, of In­dian Head, MD, died May 10, 2016 at the Hospice House of Charles County with his fam­ily by his side. He was born Nov. 29, 1924 in In­dian Head, MD. His par­ents were Clarence Daniel Car­pen­ter Sr. and Etta Adams Car­pen­ter. Clarence was also pre­ceded in death by his wife Lu­cille Baker Car­pen­ter, they were mar­ried on July 16, 1943; sib­lings Agnes Bowie, Gertrude Wright McWilliams, Clarence Mitchell Car­pen­ter, Le­muel Car­pen­ter and John Car­pen­ter.

He is sur­vived by his chil­dren, Lucy Cle­ments (Steve), Nancy Tay­lor (Doug), and C. Dan Car­pen­ter III (Donna). Grand­chil­dren Lori Roberts, Karen Shif­flett, Jeff Cle­ments and Robert Tay­lor. Great grand­chil­dren Lily Roberts, Jesse Cle­ments and Randy Roberts Jr.

He was a grad­u­ate of Lackey High School Class of 1943. Clarence was re­tired from the Me­tal­lurgy Di­vi­sion, Naval Re­search Lab­o­ra­tory. He was past president Mary­land State Fire­men’s As­so­ci­a­tion, Past President South­ern Mary­land Fire­man’s As­so­ci­a­tion, Past President Charles County Vol­un­teer Fire­man’s As­so­ci­a­tion, Life Mem­ber and Past President of the Po­tomac Heights Vol­un­teer Fire Dept.

Clarence en­joyed camping, boat­ing, fish­ing, the fire de­part­ment, and be­ing with his fam­ily. He was very ded­i­cated to his fam­ily and loved to help and serve oth­ers.

View­ing will be held on Fri­day, May 13, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. with prayers at 7 p.m. at the Po­tomac Heights Vol­un­teer Fire De­part­ment and Res­cue Squad.

Fu­neral Mass will be on Satur­day, May 14, 10 a.m. at the St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, In­dian Head, MD. In­ter­ment St. Charles Ceme­tery, In­dian Head.

Pall­bear­ers: Jeff Cle­ments, Robert Tay­lor, Randy Roberts, Chris Bowie, Matthew Car­pen­ter, Chuck Le­gag­neux, John Shif­flett, and Robert “Bob” Collins.
