Man held without bond for rape of 11 year old
A La Plata man was arrested last week for the alleged rape of an 11-yearold girl earlier this month, court records show. The girl told police that she complied to sex with the suspect after he allegedly threatened her with a knife.
Charged with first-degree rape, Jaime Antonio Rivera, 26, was held without bond Monday, according to charging documents. When apprehended by police, Rivera reportedly told a detective that he was not a U.S. citizen.
On June 10, the girl went to the guidance counselor at her middle school and reported the alleged rape, prompting a Child Protective Services and Charles County Sheriff’s Office investigation, charging documents indicate. She told investigators that Rivera was drunk and demanded to have sex with her, drawing a 6-inch knife and telling her that he would hurt her if she did not do what he wanted.
Rivera remains in custody awaiting a preliminary hearing scheduled for July 8.
