Man held without bond for rape of 11 year old

A La Plata man was ar­rested last week for the al­leged rape of an 11-yearold girl ear­lier this month, court records show. The girl told po­lice that she com­plied to sex with the sus­pect af­ter he al­legedly threat­ened her with a knife.

Charged with first-de­gree rape, Jaime An­to­nio Rivera, 26, was held without bond Mon­day, ac­cord­ing to charg­ing doc­u­ments. When ap­pre­hended by po­lice, Rivera re­port­edly told a de­tec­tive that he was not a U.S. cit­i­zen.

On June 10, the girl went to the guid­ance coun­selor at her mid­dle school and re­ported the al­leged rape, prompt­ing a Child Pro­tec­tive Ser­vices and Charles County Sher­iff’s Of­fice in­ves­ti­ga­tion, charg­ing doc­u­ments in­di­cate. She told in­ves­ti­ga­tors that Rivera was drunk and de­manded to have sex with her, draw­ing a 6-inch knife and telling her that he would hurt her if she did not do what he wanted.

Rivera re­mains in cus­tody await­ing a pre­lim­i­nary hear­ing sched­uled for July 8.
