House destroyed by fire during Tuesday’s storm
A Waldorf home in the 1100 block of Hamlin Road suffered severe structural damage on Tuesday afternoon after a windy thunderstorm toppled a tree onto a power line, sparking a fire, according to authorities. The fire caused an estimated $225,000 in total damages to the home and displaced two residents. At 3:46 p.m. on June 21, about 52 firefighters from the Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department and surrounding departments responded to the 1100 block of Hamlin Road and got the fire under control in about 10 minutes, Deputy Chief Jeff Duer said. There were no injuries to the occupants or firefighters. The displaced residents are being assisted by the American Red Cross and their insurance company.
