House de­stroyed by fire dur­ing Tues­day’s storm

A Wal­dorf home in the 1100 block of Ham­lin Road suf­fered se­vere struc­tural dam­age on Tues­day af­ter­noon af­ter a windy thun­der­storm top­pled a tree onto a power line, spark­ing a fire, ac­cord­ing to au­thor­i­ties. The fire caused an es­ti­mated $225,000 in to­tal dam­ages to the home and dis­placed two res­i­dents. At 3:46 p.m. on June 21, about 52 fire­fight­ers from the Wal­dorf Vol­un­teer Fire Depart­ment and sur­round­ing de­part­ments re­sponded to the 1100 block of Ham­lin Road and got the fire un­der con­trol in about 10 min­utes, Deputy Chief Jeff Duer said. There were no in­juries to the oc­cu­pants or fire­fight­ers. The dis­placed res­i­dents are be­ing as­sisted by the Amer­i­can Red Cross and their in­surance com­pany.
