Fireworks returning to La Plata fairgrounds for July 4 celebration
The Charles County Fair Board announced its annual fireworks display will return for Independence Day, beginning at 5 p.m. July 4 with family activities and more in La Plata.
After a fire devastated the grounds in 2013, the Charles County Fair Board made the decision to curtail the 2015 fireworks display due to the debt incurred to rebuild destroyed barns.
“We have worked diligently to pay down that debt and get to our new normal,” said Charlie Gardiner, Sr., fair board member, in a press release. “With the help of a very generous community and our frugality, we have done well.”
The fairgrounds will open at 5 p.m. July 4 for family gatherings and picnics. There will be pony rides and a glow product available. Vendors will sell food and refreshments on-site. Fireworks will begin at dusk. The rain date is July 5.
Parking and admission are free. The fairgrounds are located at 8440 Fairground Road, La Plata. Call 301-932-1234 or go to www. charlescountyfair.com.
