Police are actively investigating a death after the body of a woman was discovered by a passing citizen in a wooded area in Waldorf on Tuesday afternoon. Authorities say the body was found in an advanced stage of decomposition with no obvious signs of foul play.

Around 3 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a wooded area in the 3300 block of Western Parkway. The woman, who was clothed, was found about 50 yards into the woods, according to police.

There are homeless people who live near the area where she was found, and investigators believe that she may have lived in the woods.

The woman has not yet been identified, and her body is being transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.
