Volunteers still needed for annual Day of Caring
United Way of Charles County will host its 22nd Annual Day of Caring on Sept. 1. The event has been a September community tradition since 1995 where partner agencies are able to have volunteers come in and take care of some of their needs.
This year, 14 agencies submitted 32 projects, requiring more than 240 volunteers. Some of this year’s projects are gardening, landscaping, arts and crafts, indoor and outdoor painting, meal delivery, construction type jobs and an IT/website project.
The day begins at 7:30 a.m. at the Greater Waldorf Jaycees, with a light breakfast before heading out to a desired location. “Live United” T-shirts will be available to everyone that volunteers. Bring a bagged lunch, snacks and additional water or soda for consumption while at projects.
To volunteer, review the volunteer opportunities and download the registration form at http:// www. united way charles. org/day-caring. For more information, call United Way of Charles County at 301-609-4844, or email email@example.com.

Workshop aims to empower domestic violence victims
Fontella Moody is one victim of thousands who has suffered from domestic violence and sexual assault. As a result, she is convicted to share her story and help empower — along with five local nonprofit organizations — women who have, or are experiencing domestic violence and/or sexual abuse in Charles County, to find and create the life they desire in a free, inaugural Lean In & Let Go workshop Aug. 20. The time and location remain confidential given the sensitivity of personal identities, according to a release.
Nonprofit partners, all of which serve victims throughout Charles County, include the Center for Abused Persons; Catherine Foundation; Catholic Charities’ Angel’s Watch Shelter; Lifestyles Inc.; and SLS Ministries Inc.’s Metamorphosis. It is Lean In & Let Go’s mission to positively impact the lives of local women victims of domestic violence and/or sexual abuse.
