Fair queen ap­pli­ca­tion dead­line is ap­proach­ing

The Charles County Fair Queen, Queen Ni­cotina LXXXI, will reign over the 93rd Charles County Fair to be held Sept. 15-18. A panel of judges will in­ter­view all nom­i­nated con­tes­tants on Sept. 9 and select the queen as well as her court for the corona­tion cer­e­mony to be held on Thurs­day, Sept. 15.

The queen is se­lected on the ba­sis of scholas­tic achieve­ment, ex­tra-cur­ric­u­lar ac­tiv­i­ties, poise and ap­pear­ance, per­sonal in­ter­view and pre­sen­ta­tion. She will re­ceive a $1,000 tu­ition schol­ar­ship to be given by PNC Bank.

The re­quire­ments to en­ter in­clude: • Par­tic­i­pants must be a res­i­dent of Charles County for at least four years. • Par­tic­i­pants must be spon­sored by a rec­og­nized Charles County civic or ed­u­ca­tional or­ga­ni­za­tion. • Par­tic­i­pants must be

un­mar­ried. • Par­tic­i­pants must be a se­nior at a Charles County high school who plans to con­tinue her ed­u­ca­tion, or a fresh­man at the Col­lege of South­ern Mary­land dur­ing the 2016 school year or a se­nior com­mut­ing daily to high school. • Par­tic­i­pants must be a stu­dent in good stand­ing, morally and scholas­ti­cally, with a C or bet­ter av­er­age. The en­try form must be signed by the pres­i­dent of the spon­sor­ing or­ga­ni­za­tion and a school of­fi­cial at the last school at­tended. The en­try form must be post­marked no later than mid­night Sun­day, Aug. 28. The win­ner must be present at the judg­ing at the fair­grounds at 4:30 p.m. on Fri­day, Sept. 9. The judges will select a court of 13 from the con­tes­tants who are present.
