One-room school­house at fair­grounds in need of up­grades, re­pairs

As ed­u­ca­tion has evolved, so has so­ci­ety. Seg­re­ga­tion plagued the United States for cen­turies as blacks were not seen as equal to their white coun­ter­parts. In that re­gard, Charles County was no dif­fer­ent from the rest of the coun­try.

That’s why Char­lotte Weirich, a vol­un­teer and fa­cil­i­ta­tor for the McConchie school project com­mit­tee, wants to make the one-room school­house a per­ma­nent fix­ture on Charles County’s his­tor­i­cal cir­cuit.
