Hospital foundation to host wine tasting, auction
This Saturday, Charles County can expect some exciting auction prizes, unique wines and a celebrity guest appearance all at the 19th Annual Autumn Wine Tasting and Silent Auction, hosted by the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center Foundation.
On Sept. 17, the foundation will host the event at the Port Tobacco Courthouse from 6 to 10 p.m. Proceeds from this year’s event will help fund initiatives to improve access to care and chronic disease management in the community.
“Many people attend our event because it’s a great evening for a great cause,” said Susan Mudd Vogel, executive director of the CRMC Foundation. “For the cost of the ticket, guests have unlimited access to 15 food vendors, more than 30 wines, an open bar, live acoustic music, sampling of assorted ales and bourbons, and a silent auction that is truly like no other in our area. The décor transforms the venue into a Maryland-themed evening and the pride for our region and our hospital are brimming.”
Colonial Liquors has coordinated more than 30 selections of wines to be poured that evening. VIP guests will have access to a spread of food by Rucci’s Famous Deli & Doughboys.
The foundation is still currently seeking sponsors for this year’s wine tasting and silent auction.
“The caliber of beverages that is coordinated by Colonial Liquors is amazing. There is something for every palate and the pourers are experienced in helping guests select their favorites. We are grateful for their partnership and support of this fundraiser,” said Carole Lewis, co-chair and board chairwoman of the foundation.
“Our auction is top notch, among the best in the region,” said Leigh Falkler, promotions and fundraising coordinator for the foundation. “Guests will not want to miss a chance to bid on the trips, packages, gift baskets, jewelry, local artwork and more.”
Some of the silent auction items include a weekend getaway to St. Michaels, Disney Hopper passes, local artwork, a “Cast And Blast” hunting and fishing outing for two at a private farm in Southern Maryland, wine tastings at various Mid-Atlantic vineyards, a week-long stay at a mountain home in Colorado, a $1,000 shopping spree at Joson’s Fine Jewelry and Boutique, and a ukulele from Island Music.
New this year is a celebrity appearance by actor Gianni Russo, who played the role of Carlo in the movie “The Godfather.” He will be at the event to meet guests, personalize bottles of Don Corleone Vodka and has provided a “Godfather” basket for the silent auction.
“The foundation is so grateful to the food and wine vendors for bringing the best our region has to offer to our sponsors and guests,” said Becky Hoffman, co-chair and immediate past president of the foundation. “Everyone who attends raves about the value they get for the price of admission.”
General admission wine tasting tickets for the event are still available for $100 and are available online at www.charlesregional.org/winetasting or in person at Colonial Liquors in La Plata. Tickets will also be available at the Government Building bussing area from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday evening. Anyone interested in donating an item for the silent auction or being a food vendor can call 301609-4319 or email email@example.com.
The foundation is also selling designated driver tickets for $40 in an effort to promote responsible drinking at the event.
