Gi­ant Food launches A+ school pro­gram for 2016-2017 school year

Gi­ant Food launched its an­nual A+ School Re­wards pro­gram for the 2016-2017 school year. The an­nual fundraiser helps cus­tomers earn funds for up to two lo­cal schools with ev­ery shop­ping trip, ac­cord­ing to a press re­lease.

Since 1989, Gi­ant has helped lo­cal schools by do­nat­ing more than $94 mil­lion through the pro­gram.

Last year’s pro­gram gen­er­ated a $2 mil­lion do­na­tion for 1,466 pub­lic and pri­vate schools in Mary­land, Vir­ginia, Wash­ing­ton, D.C., and Delaware, with a record-break­ing 20 schools re­ceiv­ing over $10,000 each in awards, ac­cord­ing to a press re­lease.

Gi­ant cus­tomers who wish to par­tic­i­pate in the pro­gram can sign up now and des­ig­nate up to two schools in their com­mu­nity by vis­it­ing their lo­cal store or at­ant­ A+ School Re­wards are ac­crued with each pur­chase made us­ing the Gi­ant card.

In the past, schools have used their A+ School Re­wards grant funds for tech­nol­ogy up­grades, schol­ar­ship pro­grams, field trips, play­grounds and other ed­u­ca­tional needs.

Cus­tomers do not need to have a child in school to sup­port their lo­cal com­mu­nity. Schools be­gan earn­ing points on Oct. 7. The pro­gram con­tin­ues through March 16.
