Realtors raise $9K for cancer, win community service award
The Southern Maryland Association of Realtors (SMAR) held its third Bras & Drawers Fundraiser Sept. 22 at Martini’s in White Plains.
The proceeds, totaling over $9,000, will be donated to “A Message of Hope Cancer Fund,” according to a news release. The evening included networking, balloon pop prizes and the auctioning off of bras and drawers put on display by models.
The cancer fund provides direct financial assistance to families facing the monetary burdens associated with cancer.
In addition, SMAR was awarded the 2016 C.A.R.E. (Community Action and Realtor Excellence) award by the Maryland Association of Realtors on Sept. 13. The award recognized the Southern Maryland group’s Secret Santa for Seniors program which has been around since 2008. The campaign is organized each year to provide holiday gifts to those less fortunate seniors.
The award includes $9,000 in prize money to be distributed to local charities, which are Charlotte Hall Veterans Home, Meals on Wheels for Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s, Fortitude Housing of Southern Maryland, Animal Shelters for Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s, Pajama Connection and Project Linus. This award marks the ninth year SMAR members have received it.
