One hundred and fifty-nine Waldorf-area people received free dental services from Neibauer Dental Care of Waldorf on Saturday, Oct. 1, as part of Free Dentistr y Day.

The nationwide program was founded to provide dental care to the growing number of Americans without dental insurance. Dentists, assistants and volunteers provided over $37,100 worth of dentistry, including cleanings, fillings and extractions throughout the day, according to a news release.

“We are very pleased with the success of this event,” Dr. Prita Ghosh said in the release. “Unfortunately, many people do not see a dentist on a routine basis. We were honored to open our doors to those in our community and volunteer our time and resources to make sure they received the care they need and deser ve.”

One third of Americans are living without dental insurance and current economic conditions leave little room to afford dental procedures, according to the release. Without events like Free Dentistry Day, dental care simply isn’t an option for many uninsured people.
