Give the president-elect a chance
To say that I am offended by a recent letter published in the Maryland Independent on Nov. 16 would be a classic understatement. I am much more than offended. I thought being called all those names by one particular presidential candidate was just her view of those who did not agree with her. I refer to the basket which was filled with all those isims, bigotry, misogynists and intolerables, racists, etc. All of whom were irredeemable. Now comes a letter to the Independent from a person, I will not name, who is obviously in need of therapy because his chosen candidate lost. This person now believes the office of president was won by the candidate who perfectly fits the label given to his supporters by his candidate. To add further insult he believes lies are now the currency of the American public discourse. This coming from a person who has tolerated and supported a president who told us “if you like your doctor you can keep your doctor, your health insurance costs will decrease by $2,500 a year, we have shovel ready jobs, we will have no lobbyists, there will be no foreign money in our campaigns, we will be the most transparent administration in history, I will preserve and defend the constitution of the United States, ISIS is the JV team, we have doubled the distance our cars will go on a gallon of gas, fast and furious began under the Bush Administration, for the first time since 1990, American manufacturers are creating new jobs, there is no inflation, my budget will reduce the deficit by $400 billion over the next decade, it was not my decision to pull all the troops from Iraq.” All these statements were blatant lies fostered upon us by the current president. I could go on and on but I think you get the picture.
Then the party who gave us this liar foisted another one on us who basically promised to double-down on his policies and who had more lying baggage than Southwest Airlines. We have been led by a succession of liars in our top office for a number of years. Liars who were leading us on a path to globalization. Liars who have led us into questionable wars. Liars who said we were not a Christian nation and apologized to the world for our perceived shortcomings. Liars who have shipped our manufacturing jobs out of the country. Liars who have flooded our nation with illegals by their actions and inactions. Liars who tell us they are all for the children who then shackle them with common core if they don’t kill them before they are born.
Give me a break. Don’t hyperventilate on us because a large part of the nation, who was vigilant enough to notice all this, chose to rid itself of such nonsense. Greatness had left us before the current election. Some folks should give the president-elect a chance to set a new course before despair takes total control of their lives.
