Marilyn and Buddy Plante of Waldorf look over the orange tree blossoming with fruit in their back yard Nov. 23. Marilyn said she purchased the tree from Lowe’s over three years ago, finding the tree in the discounted garden section. She said she didn’t initially expect the tree to survive in the Southern Maryland climate. After producing only a couple oranges in its first three years, the tree bloomed with between 30 and 40 oranges this month. The Plantes picked the oranges last week so they would not be killed by the frost. Right, oranges hang from Waldorf resident Marilyn Plante’s orange tree, which she has nurtured in her yard for more than three years.
