Historic McConchie school open for holiday tours
Room School will be open for tours 4-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, and 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, during the Kris Kringle Christmas Market at the Charles County Fairgrounds. tem known as COSMOS will be unavailable to library patrons in Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s counties on Tuesday, Dec. 6. The Integrated Librar y System (ILS) that runs COSMOS is being upgraded and will be taken offline by 8 a.m. that day. As soon as the upgrades are completed, the system will be turned back on.
All library branches will open at their normal times, but can provide only limited services during this time. Custom- ers who want to renew or borrow a library item must have their library card with them.
The upgrade lays the groundwork for a new feature to COSMOS, allowing library users to see electronic books, as well as place holds and check them out directly from the catalog. Users of eBooks will no longer be redirected to the OverDrive site to check out and download a book. The complete upgrade process for this feature could take an additional week to allow content integration of the eBooks into the catalog, but that will be done without any user impact.
Library customers will also notice a change in the “Did you mean” search display making it easier for them to find items, as well as a new icon to make the differentiation between dvds and blu-ray materials
There are also several new features that are behind-the-scenes to improve workflow and increase efficiencies for staff.
