Lefty’s Barbecue scores big at DC cooking expo

Lefty’s Barbecue of Waldorf took first place for Best Pork BBQ and second place for judges’ choice Overall Best BBQ at Metro Cooking DC, an expo at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. The expo was Saturday, Dec. 3.

With more than 15 barbecue restaurant­s in the Washington, D.C., metropolit­an area at the expo, show goers had the opportunit­y to walk around each booth and sample each restaurant’s featured item. Afterwards, they filled out a ballot to vote in four categories: pork, beef brisket, chicken and barbecue sauce, according to a news release.

The formal award judges included David Guas, featured grill expert, TV host and owner of the district’s Bayou Bakery, and Danielle Bennett, better known to the barbecue community as Diva Q, who is one of the most influentia­l women in the barbecue and grilling industry, according to the release.

Lefty’s Barbecue Unlimited is a family- and minority-owned business that was started in 1989.
