Sher­iff’s of­fice in­ves­ti­gat­ing fa­tal ac­ci­dent

Man may have suf­fered med­i­cal is­sue be­fore crash

Po­lice say a man driv- ing in Wal­dorf was killed af­ter crash­ing into an un­oc­cu­pied parked car on Tues­day af­ter­noon.

Var­don Julius Wash­ing- ton, 58, of Wal­dorf was pro­nounced dead at the scene, and in­ves­ti­ga­tors are try­ing to de­ter­mine if he may have had a med­i­cal is­sue be­fore he lost control of his ve­hi­cle, ac­cord­ing to a news re­lease from the Charles County Sher­iff’s Of­fice.

Around 3:52 p.m. on Tues­day, Wash­ing­ton,

who was driv­ing a Toy­ota FJ Cruiser head­ing south on Co­p­ley Av­enue, lost control of the car for un­known rea­sons, the re­lease states. The ve­hi­cle crossed into the on­com­ing lanes and struck a mail­box be­fore cross­ing back into the south­bound lanes and strik­ing a parked car. The col­li­sion sent the parked car across two lanes of traf­fic and came to a stop in the front yard of a house nearby.

Cpl. K. Syvert­sen of the Traf­fic Op­er­a­tions Unit is con­duct­ing the in­ves­ti­ga­tion.
