Po­lice in­ves­ti­gat­ing homi­cide af­ter Wal­dorf man found dead

Po­lice are ac­tively in­ves­ti­gat- ing a homi­cide af­ter a man was found dead in a wooded area on Satur­day near Mat­ta­woman Lane in Wal­dorf.

Au­thor­i­ties have iden­ti­fied the vic­tim as Juan Gon­za­les-Me­jia, 34, of Wal­dorf. Gon­za­les-Me­jia suf­fered trauma to his body, and was pro­nounced dead on scene, ac­cord­ing to a Prince Ge­orge’s County Po­lice Depart­ment spokesper­son. The agency is not re­leas­ing any fur­ther in­for- ma­tion re­gard­ing the na­ture of his death at this time.

Prince Ge­orge’s County de­tec­tives are lead­ing the in­ves­ti­ga­tion, and a re­ward of up to $25,000 has been of­fered for in­for­ma­tion lead­ing to an ar­rest and in­dict­ment.

Around 3 p.m. on Satur­day, a cit­i­zen flagged down a Charles County Sher­iff’s Of­fice deputy af­ter notic­ing the man ly­ing in a wooded area in the 16900

block of Mat­ta­woman Lane, au­thor­i­ties re­ported. Due to the area where the vic­tim was found, the in­ves­ti­ga­tion was turned over to Prince Ge­orge’s County Po­lice Depart­ment de­tec­tives, who are con­tin­u­ing to work to iden­tify a sus­pect, or sus­pects, and a mo­tive.
