Two arrested on animal cruelty charges
Reportedly descendants of Malcolm X
Two women, descendants of civil rights leader Malcolm X, were arrested last week and charged with animal cruelty and theft.
Malikah Saban Shabazz, 51, of Stark, N.H., and Bet- tih Bahiyah Shabazz, 19, the daughter and granddaughter of Malcolm X, were charged with several counts of animal cruelty after police reportedly discovered seven pit bull terriers in the back of a U-Haul truck, which had been reported stolen to Vermont State Police, according to a Charles County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson.
Police said the dogs were kept in inhumane conditions and some had suffered severe injuries.
On Jan. 25, a Prince George’s County police officer driving home spotted the U-Haul truck which had been reported stolen and alerted other officers, police reported. Later, a Charles County Sheriff’s Office located the truck around 9:51 p.m. in a parking lot near Drury Drive in La Plata. Both suspects were found inside the vehicle.
