Karena Bennett recently had her science students discovering how the human body works, examining the eye and how vision works, according to a news release. The Maurice J. McDonough High School class worked in groups, moving from station to station, and conducted tests on measures such as astigmatism, depth perception, nearsightedness and farsightedness. At the completion of their testing the students worked to analyze their findings. The class is part of the Project Lead the Way Biomedical Sciences program at the school. Students examine the interactions of human body systems by building organs and tissues on a skeleton, using software to monitor body functions such as muscle movement, reflexes and respiratory processes, and working as biomedical professionals to solve real-world scenarios.

The Human Body Systems class is a required course for students enrolled in the PLTW Biomedical program. Students generally take the class during their sophomore or junior year.
