Do­fat com­pletes 2016 sea­son with Olympic spar­ring record

Ends year with nu­mer­ous medals

Jade Li-Ming Do­fat, 15 (Black Belt), is a mem­ber of Team Do­fat’s Olympic Taek­wondo Spar­ring Team (www.teamd­o­fat.com) in Wal­dorf.

Do­fat fin­ished her 2016 com­peti- tion sea­son earn­ing a sil­ver medal at the 2016 U.S. Taek­wondo Na- tional Cham­pi­onship (Rich­mond, Va.), gold medal at the 2016 Am­bas- sadors Cup (Wash­ing­ton, D.C.), gold and sil­ver medal at the 2016 Mary­land State Taek­wondo Fes­ti­val (Es­sex), two gold medals at 2016 War­rior Within Open Karate Cham­pi­onship (Wal­dorf), a gold and sil­ver medal at the 2016 New York Open (Long Is­land, N.Y.), gold and bronze medals at the 2016 Kom­bat Klas­sic Open Karate Cham­pi­onship (Wal­dorf), three gold medals and two grand cham- pi­ons at the 2016 Bat­tle in Her­shey (Her­shey, Pa.), two gold medals at the 2016 East Coast Taek­wondo Cham­pi­onship (An­nan­dale, Va.), two Gold Medals at the 2016 New York Gov­er­nors Cup (New York, N.Y.), two gold medals at the 2016 Mary­land State Cap­tain’s Cup (Jes- sup) and a bronze medal at the 2016 At­lantic Taek­wondo Open Cham­pi­onship (Rich­mond, Va.).

In ad­di­tion to her 2016 yearend vic­to­ries, in early 2016, Do­fat earned gold and sil­ver Medals in the 2016 World Taek­wondo Cham- pi­o­nship in Birm­ing­ham, Eng­land. She also won gold and sil­ver medals in the 2016 New Jer­sey, Mary- land and Vir­ginia State Am­a­teur Ath­letic Union Olympic Spar­ring and Poom­sae Cham­pi­onships.

Do­fat will be com­pet­ing in the 2017 U.S. Taek­wondo Open Cham- pi­o­nship in Las Ve­gas, 2017 U.S. World Open Cham­pi­onship in Port- land, Ore., and the 2017 Cana­dian Open Cham­pi­onship in Toronto.

Cur­rently, Do­fat com­petes in U.S. Taek­wondo, World Taek­wondo Fed­er­a­tion, In­ter­na­tional Taek­won- do Fed­er­a­tion, Am­a­teur Ath­letic Union, Pan Amer­i­can Taek­wondo Union, AMKOR, Open and World Taek­wondo Al­liance com­pe­ti­tion cir­cuits.

Do­fat is cur­rently a fresh­man at North Point High School, main­tain­ing a solid 4.2 GPA.

Do­fat trains six days a week in In­ter­na­tional Taek­wondo Fed­er­a­tion Taek­wondo and Mar­tial Arts Weapons at Wal­dorf Mar­tial Arts (www.wal­dorf­mar­tialarts.com) un­der Masters Roger Ca­vanaugh and Steve Hilde­brand. She also train in World Taek­wondo Fed­er­a­tion (Olympic Taek­wondo and Sports Poom­sae) un­der her fa­ther and coach (Ran­dell L. Do­fat, Sr.).

In ad­di­tion to her lo­cal Taek­wondo and Olympic Spar­ring train­ing, Do­fat re­ceives spe­cial­ized train­ing at the U.S. Olympic Train­ing Cen­ter in Colorado Springs, Colo., and with U.S. Olympic Spar­ring Team mem­bers Mas­ter So­hwon Kim, Mas­ter Philip Yun and Mas­ter Vic­to­ria Ann Stam­baugh.

Do­fat con­tin­ues to have her sights set on mak­ing the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team and com­pet­ing in the 2020 Sum­mer Olympic Games in Ja­pan.
