Coop­ers cel­e­brate 70th wedding an­niver­sary

Fran­cis X. and Mary June Cooper cel­e­brated their 70th wedding an­niver­sary Thurs­day, April 6. The cou­ple was mar­ried April 6, 1947, and raised eight chil­dren.

Fran­cis X. Cooper joined the Air Force in 1942 dur­ing World War II. He re­tired from St. El­iz­a­beths Hos­pi­tal in Wash­ing­ton, D.C., and Charles County Gov­ern­ment. Cooper is a former com­man­der at Amer­i­can Le­gion Post 170 in In­dian Head, and an ac­tive mem­ber of Knights of St. John in McConchie and The Loyal Sports­mans So­cial Club.

Mary June Cooper was em­ployed as a nurse with Physi­cians Memo­rial Hos­pi­tal in La Plata, where she worked for over 35 years. Af­ter re­tir­ing from the hos­pi­tal, she pro­vided pri­vate home care for sev­eral pa­tients, raised her grand­chil­dren, and cared for her par­ents and rel­a­tives.

The Coop­ers are mem­bers of the Elks Lodge in New­burg and Amer­i­can Le­gion Post 170. They re­side in La Plata where Mary June Cooper’s grand­par­ents, Richard and Martha Hem­s­ley Bivins, owned more than 180 acres of land.
