What is ‘A New Day for La Plata’?

Maryland Independent - - Community Forum -

In the past few months, signs with New Day for La Plata have been popping up all over town. Many have asked, “What is ‘New Day for La Plata’ and what exactly does it mean?”

New Day for La Plata captures our vision for the future of La Plata. It includes a team made up of multi-generational candidates who are united with common goals and interests, are forward thinking, business-friendly and running for our town election. We bring many different viewpoints but have similar thoughts about ways to work with our residents to make our town more family-friendly, redevelopment and how to end the stagnant status quo. Our team brings a new vision, energy, action and sense of community to La Plata.

Vision: We are driven by our citizens and their requests to retain the small town charm of La Plata while making it more family and business friendly. Our top priorities for the residents include: creating a walking community in La Plata, attracting new family-friendly businesses, offering events in the town to provide entertainment throughout the year and repairing the infrastructure (roads, sidewalks, and water/ sewer lines). For businesses, our vision includes helping them thrive by building strong partnerships, improving infrastructure and promoting them as part of our community. We will mend the relationship between the Town, County and State so that we can work together for the betterment of our citizens.

Energy: New Day for La Plata is energized and understands the need for a positive change. We represent a new dynamic coupled with experience, wisdom, and integrity. We have fresh, innovative ideas that will bring La Plata into the 21st century while maintaining our heritage.

Action: New Day for La Plata will take action to revitalize the downtown by implementing proven programs designed to preserve the charm of a small town but incorporate modern facilities and amenities. Our tax money has paid for several studies on how to improve the downtown but these recommendations have never been implemented. New Day for La Plata will work hard to implement these recommendations and make them become reality — not just another empty promise. We are all about doing, not just saying we will do.

Community: This is our town — it belongs to the citizens. New Day for La Plata will work hard for you. We have witnessed what can happen when we work together. New Day for La Plata continues to give back to our community by supporting local events such as Rocktoberfest, Shop La Plata, Special Olympic Torch Run and Zombie Run, Shamrock Run, Kent Avenue Corridor Clean Up and Fox 5 Zip Trip, to name a few. When you live in a town that has a sense of community, we all win. By revitalizing the downtown area while preserving our small town charm; implementing art programs, improving business infrastructure and marketing La Plata to visitors and prospective residents, we will become the premier place to shop, dine and live. With your support, May 2 will be a New Day for La Plata.
