Vaughn singled with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to bring Rodriguez to the plate representing the tying run, but he grounded out to end the game.
Vaughn led the way for the Blue Crabs with three hits, while Rodriguez had two.
Scott Shuman got the win for Lancaster after pitching a scoreless eighth with two strikeouts. Eppley got the loss for Southern Maryland.
Blue Crabs starter Brian Grening did not factor in the decision and maintained a threehit shutout into the seventh. In seven innings, Grening gave up just one run on six hits with five strikeouts.
