Ron­ald Lee Ben­nett, 65, of Fort Wash­ing­ton, MD, passed away peace­fully on Satur­day, June 3, 2017, at South­ern Mary­land Hos­pi­tal in Clin­ton, MD. Ron­ald was born to the late Richard Ben­nett and sur­viv­ing Lu­cille (Sim­mons) Lakip on Jan. 11, 1952. He is pre­ceded by his brother, Ti­mothy Ben­nett.

Ron­ald is sur­vived by his wife, Theresa A. (Or­ban) Ben­nett; his sis­ter, Su­san (Ben­nett) Simp­son; his brother, Linwood Ben­nett; and his neph­ews: Richard Ben­nett, Brad Ben­nett, and Michael Ben­nett.

Ron­ald Ben­nett served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971, where he was hon­or­ably dis­charged. Af­ter serv­ing, Ron­ald moved to Riverdale, MD, where he be­gan work­ing for the United Par­cel Service as a loader and sorter. It was dur­ing this time, he met Theresa A. Or­ban. Af­ter mov­ing to Fort Wash­ing­ton, MD, Ron­ald and Theresa were mar­ried on Jan. 21, 1985. In 1991, Ron­ald and Theresa took cus­tody of his late brother’s son, Richard Ben­nett, where they raised him as their own. Ron­ald later re­tired from the United Par­cel Service in June 2000.

Ron­ald truly lived life to the fullest through sim­ple plea­sures; spend­ing time with fam­ily and friends, at­tend­ing to his yard, tak­ing care of an­i­mals and pro­vid­ing for his wife and nephew. Ron­ald could make friends with any­one and had the un­canny abil­ity to reach peo­ple in a deep and pos­i­tive way. He will be re­mem­bered by his fam­ily as kind-hearted, very hard­work­ing man that placed his fam­ily and friends be­fore any­thing else, even him­self.

Ser­vices will be held Wil­liams Fu­neral Home, 4720 Hawthorne Road, In­dian Head, MD 20640 on Wed­nes­day, June 7, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The fam­ily will be there to greet rel­a­tives and friends.

A me­mo­rial re­cep­tion will also be held on Wed­nes­day, June 7th, 7 p.m. at the Bryans Road Vol­un­teer Fire De­part­ment, 3099 Liv­ingston Road, Bryans Road, MD 20616.

In lieu of flow­ers, the fam­ily asks for do­na­tions to be made to help cover the cost of fu­neral ex­penses.
