FOX 5 News to feature Waldorf on July 7
When FOX 5 News came to Charles County last summer and featured the Town of La Plata in its Zip Trip series, we had a great turnout. The event was so successful, our county is getting this special recognition again in Waldorf. You, your friends and your family are invited to O’Donnell Lake (10400 O’Donnell Lake, Waldorf) beside Waldorf West Library and St. Charles Companies on Friday, July 7, from 6-11 a.m. to cheer on Charles County and maybe even appear on live national television. Come and celebrate our county, and let the world know how special your hometown is.
FOX 5 Zip Trip is a weekly Friday series airing from June through August on WTTG FOX5DC, channel 5. The segment highlights the best spots to visit around Washington, D.C., region and shows what makes each unique. If you’re unable to join us in Waldorf on July 7, tune in on WTTG FOX 5 DC or go to www.fox5dc.com and watch the event unfold.
No need to RSVP — everyone is welcome. Wear matching shirts advertising your organization, and bring signs to say “good morning” to those watching throughout the region. This is a “drop-in” event; audience members may come at any time and are not required to stay for a specific length of time. The event will broadcast live at O’Donnell Lake.
The morning is packed with fun and you’ll see familiar faces from around the county. You will even see a guest appearance from Commissioners’ Vice President Amanda M. Stewart (D), who is excited to highlight District 3.
FOX 5 Zip Trip has a segment called First Responder Friday. Fire volunteers from the Waldorf fire station will race an on-air personality to see who can put on fire gear the fastest. There will also be a hometown hero segment highlighting a local hero who has made an impact in their community. Tune in to see who it is.
Love the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs? Get to know the players as FOX 5 interviews them about the great American sport and their lives outside baseball.
That’s not all — even our local students will be featured. Charles County is full of smart, creative students and one of them will be FOX 5’s junior reporter. Come or tune into the show to see their journalism skills at work.
Local businesses, restaurants, nonprofits and residents will be featured throughout the morning — but we don’t want to ruin the surprise! We encourage you to take lots of photos, and use hashtags #fox5ziptrip and #SpeakOutCharles when you post your photos on Facebook or Twitter for the chance to be shared or retweeted on our Charles County Government social media pages during the day.
We hope to see you bright and early on July 7.
