Robert Allen Adams Sr., 88, of La Plata, MD, died June 8, 2017 at home.

Mr. Adams was a re­tired com­puter pro­gram­mer and sys­tems an­a­lyst for the De­part­ment of Navy. He also was a farmer in his younger years. He loved base­ball, air­planes, work­ing at his farm, and was an avid reader. He was a tal­ented base­ball player dur­ing the 1950’s in the Charles-St. Mary’s Men’s Base­ball League and was one of only four play­ers in its 71-year his­tory to win both a “Best Pitcher” and “Bat­ting Cham­pion” award. He coached youth base­ball for many years for the South­ern Mary­land Youth Or­ga­ni­za­tion. He loved to watch the Wash­ing­ton Na­tion­als and the lo­cal men’s team, the Bumpy Oak Bombers.

Born March 1, 1929, in Wash­ing­ton, D.C., he was the son of the late Peter Robert Adams and Ange­lyn Re­becca Welch. In ad­di­tion to his par­ents, he was pre­ceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Lor­raine (Bladen) Adams.

He is sur­vived by his son, Robert A. Adams Jr. and his wife Kitty LaHood Adams; grand­chil­dren: Susie, An­nie, Mag­gie, and So­phie Adams; and sev­eral nieces and neph­ews.

Friends re­ceived on Fri­day, June 16, from 2-5 p.m. at Ray­mond Fu­neral Ser­vice, 5635 Wash­ing­ton Ave., La Plata, MD 20646. A Mass of Chris­tian Burial will fol­low at 6 p.m. at Sa­cred Heart Church in La Plata.
