Robert Allen Adams Sr.
Robert Allen Adams Sr., 88, of La Plata, MD, died June 8, 2017 at home.
Mr. Adams was a retired computer programmer and systems analyst for the Department of Navy. He also was a farmer in his younger years. He loved baseball, airplanes, working at his farm, and was an avid reader. He was a talented baseball player during the 1950’s in the Charles-St. Mary’s Men’s Baseball League and was one of only four players in its 71-year history to win both a “Best Pitcher” and “Batting Champion” award. He coached youth baseball for many years for the Southern Maryland Youth Organization. He loved to watch the Washington Nationals and the local men’s team, the Bumpy Oak Bombers.
Born March 1, 1929, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Peter Robert Adams and Angelyn Rebecca Welch. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Lorraine (Bladen) Adams.
He is survived by his son, Robert A. Adams Jr. and his wife Kitty LaHood Adams; grandchildren: Susie, Annie, Maggie, and Sophie Adams; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends received on Friday, June 16, from 2-5 p.m. at Raymond Funeral Service, 5635 Washington Ave., La Plata, MD 20646. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 6 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church in La Plata.
