Golf tour­na­ment

The 40th South­ern Mary­land Ama­teur In­vi­ta­tional Golf Tour­na­ment will be held June 23 to 25 at Bre­ton Bay Golf and Coun­try Club in Leonard­town.

The tour­na­ment, which is open to male ama­teur golfers, is a 54-hole stroke play event with four di­vi­sions: over­all cham­pi­onship di­vi­sion, se­nior di­vi­sion (must have reached 55th birth­day by June 23), su­per se­nior di­vi­sion (must have reached 65th birth­day by June 23) and ju­nior di­vi­sion (for golfers 18 and younger).

The cost is $125 for ju­niors, $175 for Bre­ton Bay mem­bers and $225 for all oth­ers. Prac­tice rounds, which cost $35, are avail­able after 2 p.m. June 17 and 18. Call the pro shop at 301-4752300 to make a tee time.

Touch­downs Against Can­cer

In sup­port of Child­hood Can­cer Aware­ness Month, the Chop­ti­con High School foot­ball team has joined Touch­downs Against Can­cer 2017.

Touch­downs Against Can­cer is the team’s way of help­ing the 16,000 chil­dren and ado­les­cents who will be di­ag­nosed with can­cer this year.

The team is chal­leng­ing fans to pledge for ev­ery touch­down it scores from Sept. 14 to 30 to ben­e­fit St. Jude Chil­dren’s Re­search Hos­pi­tal. A one­time do­na­tion can be made.

Youth sports videos

Charles County De­part­ment of Recre­ation, Parks and Tourism has re­leased a three-part video se­ries ti­tled, “The Rules: A Guide to Youth Sports.”

The three videos dis­cuss the or­ga­ni­za­tion’s code of con­duct, the im­pact of youth sports coaches and ba­sic bas­ket­ball rules. The videos are avail­able on­line atwww. Charles County Parks. com/ Recre­ation/ In­door-Sports.

The in­tro­duc­tory code of con­duct video is for par­ents and care­givers of chil­dren par­tic­i­pat­ing in youth sports. The video out­lines stan­dards for par­tic­i­pat­ing in all our sports pro­grams to al­low chil­dren to have a pos­i­tive and re­ward­ing ex­pe­ri­ence. The code of con­duct is based on sports­man­ship and fair play.

The coach­ing video out­lines ben­e­fits of be­com­ing a youth coach, the steps of be­com­ing a vol­un­teer coach and the ex­pec­ta­tions for coaches.
