Kiwanis Club thankful for support of Project Graduation
Kiwanis Club of Charles County extends sincere thanks to the many businesses and organizations who supported the club’s efforts with Project Graduation this year. The event was held at the College of Southern Maryland on June 1, 2 and 3 as a celebration of the recent 2017 high school graduates. The supporters contributed to the success of the event with donations of money, food, and time. The many organizations and businesses included: Burger King, Charles Street Bakery, Checkers, Circus Circus Ice Cream, Dat Jerk Caribbean Chargrill, Debbie Carroll Cakes, Domino’s of La Plata, Educational Systems FCU, Elbert’s Ice, Firehouse Subs, Jimmy John’s, Ledo of La Plata, Ledo of Waldorf, Lefty’s Barbeque, Milloff’s, Outback of Waldorf, Pizza Hotline of La Plata, Pizza Hut of La Plata, Pizza Hut of Waldorf, Sam’s Club, Starbucks of La Plata, Utz Chips, Vocelli Pizza, and Waldorf Lions Club. The Kiwanis Club thanks the supporters and volunteers for making a difference in our schools and community.
Kiwanis International is a global organization of members dedicated to serving the children of the world. The Kiwanis Club of Charles County is one of three clubs in Charles County. Developed under the principles of Kiwanis International, the goal of the club is to strive for the principle objects of Kiwanis and strive for a better quality of life for youth in the county, for the community as a whole, and for the individual. Club members have the opportunity to participate in service projects as a group effort and bond together as a community service organization representing the
Children of Charles County. The club has volunteered at several activities during the course of the year. Their signature project has been Project Graduation for almost 25 years.
Kiwanis Club of Charles County meets at 6 p.m. on the first Tuesday of the month at The Greene Turtle restaurant in La Plata. Meetings include dinner, fellowship, business and/or guest speakers on a range of topics from the school system to county infrastructure. The club invites all members of the community to attend one of their meetings to learn more about Kiwanis and the Charles County club. The next meeting will be held on Aug. 1.
