Black Box Theatre hosts big screen event
Film Festival stops in Indian Head
The Black Box Theatre in Indian Head will host one of two mini-fests produced by the Southern Maryland Film Festival (SMFF), marking the debut movie event for the Indian Head Center for the Arts.
The SMFF Steering Committee has held large festivals in St. Mary’s County the past two years, but opted for two smaller events in 2017 to boost interest in Calvert and Charles counties for next year’s big event. Eligible works have related content to the area, were filmed in one of the three counties or have at least one Southern Maryland native or resident on the filmmaking team, according to SMFF guidelines.
The theater provides a home for local playwrights and performers, offering a wide variety of acting workshops and locally-produced entertainment. Hosting the festival fits into ownership’s mission to supply a stage to those interested in the arts.
“What’s really exciting about this is it gives the opportunity for young playwrights to have
