Woman killed in Waldorf crash
A Waldorf woman died from injuries she sustained during a Friday morning collision in the area of Piney Church Road in Waldorf.
Around 8 a.m. July 28, the Charles County Sheriff’s Office reported that a car crash took place in the vicinity of Piney Church Road near Renner Road.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the driver, a 20-yearold male from Waldorf, was traveling north on Piney Church Road in a Honda Civic when he lost control of the car and hit a utility pole. According to the press release obtained from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office the driver and two passengers — a 19-year-old male and a 20year old female — were transported to a hospital by ambulance with serious injuries.
The release identified a fourth occupant of the car as Leia Jessica Bettis, 20, of Waldorf, who was pronounced dead at the scene by medical staff. According to officials, it is not immediately clear why the driver left the roadway.
According to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office Twitter account, Piney Church Road was closed down for several hours in both directions between Poston Drive and Renner Road.
Cpl. B. Saunders of the Traffic Operations Unit is currently investigating.
