Hospice grateful for volunteers, community support

Maryland Independent - - Community Forum - Susie Loomis, Waldorf The writer is the volunteer coordinator with Hospice of Charles County.

On Aug. 9, more than 50 hospice volunteers and guests were recognized at the annual Hospice of Charles County Volunteer Appreciation Dinner, held at the Waldorf Jaycees Hall. Individuals who are involved in patient/family support, bereavement, administrative duties, call center, house and fundraising were honored for the selfless acts of kindness. Hospice also recognized the ladies from Project Linus, who make and donate blankets for our children’s Camp Sunshine and the ladies from Fort Foote Baptist Church who make and donate the red, white and blue blankets for out veteran patients. Volunteers are the heart of hospice and very much appreciated.

There are several businesses and individuals who also deserve recognition for their ongoing support of Hospice. Those who donated door prizes for the volunteers include Shelvy Hurley, County Florist, Joson Fine Jewelry and Home Boutique, Wentworth Nursery, Color Room, Kim Radkte, Lefty’s BBQ, Old Line Bank, Captain Billy’s, Charlotte Hall Jazzercise, Nationwide Dent Repair, Mandy Wilcox, Gail Cavella, Carol Eppley and hats off to the hospice staff that generously donated 30 door prizes to show how much the volunteers are appreciated. Thank You to the Waldorf Jaycees Hall for their hospitality and good food.

We are truly blessed to have so many people that are so supportive and dedicated to Hospice of Charles County year after year.
