The fire initiated inside the garage attached to the two story, single family home. The structure of the home as well as a 2016 Toyota Corolla was damaged from the fire. The estimated damages were $30,000 for the structure and $20,000 of contents within the home, according to the release.

“Two senior citizen residents escaped unharmed and American Red Cross assisted them with a place to stay,” said Bill Smith, public information officer for Charles County fire and EMS.

Other local companies assisted during the fire, which totaled 50 firefighters on the scene and taking 15 minutes to control the fire.

“Extensive overhaul and cleanup was required,” Smith said.

Smith said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
