A 19-year-old Olivehurst woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after the car she was driving, including three passengers, rolled into a drainage canal Tuesday evening. Two passengers suffered major injuries and had to be extricated from the vehicle.

Jasmine Brito, 19, was transported to Rideout Hospital with minor injuries, according to a California Highway Patrol press release.

Brito was booked into Yuba County Jail on Wednesday on $100,000 bail, and faces felony driv- ing under the influence resulting in bodily injury to another person.

Passengers Brenna Ansley, 18, and Mariela PerezMoreno, 17, both of Olivehurst, were transported to Rideout with major injuries. The CHP couldn’t confirm what type of injuries they suffered.

Marysville and Linda fire department personnel also extricated passenger Juan Sanchez, 17, also of Olivehurst, who was uninjured.

According to the release, Brito was driving a 2005 Nissan Altima at a very high speed in a “reckless manner” on Highway 20 and had attempted to pass slower-moving traffic by using the narrow right shoulder of the highway. The Altima instead drove down the embankment and overturned, landing upright in a drainage ditch near Plantz Road at about 7:40 p.m.

Due to the high speed of the Altima when it left the roadway, gravel from the shoulder was flung forward and caused minor damage to the 2013 Nissan Armada driving ahead of the Altima. The two occupants were uninjured.
