GWL: All-Star Game set for Monday in Chico

Cole Van Den Helder struck out six while al­low­ing seven hits and four runs over six in­nings to record the win and im­prove his record to 3-1 on the sum­mer.

The vic­tory, cou­pled with the Port­land Pick­les’ 9-6 loss to the Chico Heat ear­lier on Satur­day, moved the Gold Sox (19-29) to four games be­hind the Pick­les (23-25) in the race for the Great West League’s fi­nal play­off spot with 12 games re­main­ing.

Rogues 9, Bears 5 In Med­ford, Ore. – Yuba City scored the first run of the game on a balk, but the rest of the night be­longed to the Rogues, who built a 7-1 lead by the fifth in­ning while send­ing the Bears to their 15th straight loss.

Bren­don Nel­son scored on the balk call in the top of the sec­ond in­ning and Michael Lagier con­nected for a solo home run in the sixth for the Bears, who trailed 9-2 be­fore ral­ly­ing for three runs in the sev­enth.

Kae­len Crisosto hit an RBI sin­gle, T.J. Dove was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Nel­son walked with the bags full to ac­count for Yuba City’s runs in that in­ning.

Crisosto and Dace Asher recorded two hits each, and Josh Win­kler dou­bled to lead the way for the Bears (10-38) at the plate.

All six teams in the GWL will have to­day off be­fore a se­lect few take part in the league’s sec­ond an­nual All­Star Game on Monday at 7:05 p.m. at Net­tle­ton Sta- dium in Chico.

Lo­cal play­ers par­tic­i­pat­ing in the game will be catcher Thomas Fuller, first base­man Brock Ephan, and pitch­ers Cruz Did­dario and Noah Sills for the Gold Sox, and third base­man Josh Win­kler and out­fielder Creed Smith for the Bears.
