Elite Fitness camp July 21-22

Elite Fitness Sports Camps will host a two-day, full-contact youth football camp on Saturday, July 21, and Sunday, July 22, at Sutter High.

The camp is for players from kindergarten through eighth grade, and will run from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. both days. The cost is $100 per camper. For more information, call Ryan Reynolds at 370-3663.

The good news for the Yubasutter Gold Sox on Wednesday night was that they held the powerhouse Chico Heat scoreless in six of the nine innings they played.

The bad news? When the Heat did find the scoreboard, they put up runs in bunches in two of those innings.

Chico took an early lead by scoring four times in the top of the second and then broke the game open by erupting for nine more runs in the eighth to come away with a 14-1 victory over the Gold Sox at Colusa Casino Stadium in Marysville.

Pitching continued to be a problem for the Gold Sox as six pitchers combined to allow 15 hits and walk 10 batters while suffering their fourth straight loss.

Eight of the runs they surrendered were earned, and it marked the 18th time in 35 games this season that Yuba-sutter allowed an opponent to score 10 runs or more.
