Thanks, all of you candidates, for putting your ideas out there

Marysville Appeal-Democrat - - FORUM / STATE / DEAR ABBY FORUM -

It hurts to lose, no matter how good a sport you are and how much self esteem you manage. So it costs something to run for elected office, big or little, even if you don’t invest a penny’s worth in funds.

So we say thanks to all candidates, no matter how they polled Tuesday for putting your ideas out there. If the definition of someone’s candidacy didn’t win her or him an office, it certainly helped define the victor’s positions.

We noted some healthy exchanges in ideas during candidate forums. We’re an amiable people, here in Yuba-sutter, but we still have our differences. There were candidates who out-and-out disagreed on some points or offered up perspectives and solutions quite different than competitors. Even though one side lost the election, they helped democracy happen.

Win or lose, your participation in the election process helped us sharpen focus.

Thanks, candidates.
